Common Roofing Problems in the Lehigh Valley

Our region's weather is tough on roofs. Between the freezing winters and baking summers, materials expand and contract constantly, leading to wear and tear. Here are the most common issues we see in Allentown and Bethlehem.

1. Ice Dams

When snow melts on the upper part of your roof and refreezes at the eaves, it creates a dam. This traps water, which can back up under your shingles and leak into your attic. Proper insulation and ventilation are the only real cures.

2. Missing Shingles

High winds from spring thunderstorms often rip older asphalt shingles right off the deck. If you find shingle tabs in your yard, call a pro immediately before the next rainstorm hits.

3. Granule Loss

If your gutters are full of what looks like sand, your shingles are aging. Those granules protect the asphalt from UV rays. Once they are gone, the shingle becomes brittle and cracks.
